City Walks
New Series of Walking Tours
Amsterdam is a great city to walk. Nowhere else in the world will you find so many great sights packed so close together. ATCB has mapped out a number of walks for you. Visitors are given the opportunity to see the city center, the Jordaan neighborhood and the old Jewish quarter in Amsterdam. The duration of the walk varies between half an hour and two to three hours. You can purchase books with folded city maps and color photos for €2 at the ARCB Tourist Information offices.
Running Dinner
Running Dinner offers a unique way to experience the culinary variety of the different restaurants in Amsterdam. You’ll also do a lot of sightseeing on the way. Enjoy three different courses, (entrée, main course and dessert) in three different restaurants with three different atmospheres. There is a wide choice of dishes available, but choices must be made ahead of time. Travel from restaurant to restaurant by boat, bike, quest or foot. For more information, go to www.amsterdamevents.nl.
GPS-walk
Although Amsterdam is a compact city where you never have to walk far, losing your way is very easy.
City Navigators rents out small GPS-navigators called City Navigators. These help you find your way around more easily. The City Navigator uses GPS-technology and lets you know where you are at any given moment. It will also tell you how to get from your current position to any other location. The Navigator also contains information about Amsterdam’s most popular hotspots and the device will help you located a large number of cafes, restaurants, monuments, shops, museums and other unique places that you would otherwise miss. There are five walking routes to choose from. For more information, go to www.citynavigation.com.
If you don’t like walking but you do want to see everything the city has to offer, Amsterdam’s public transport company GVB has put together an informative tour to put on your MP3-player. Play it and take a ride with trolley car line 5, which runs from the Central Station to Amstelveen. Download the free podcast from www.gvb.nl.
