Theatres
There are quality theater performances given year-round and on every day of the week. Many of them are English. Most of the large theaters are located around the Leidseplein within walking distance from one another. You can stop by an outlet for programs, tickets and prices.
If you like comedies, don’t miss the hilarious Boom Chicago which has been around for eleven years and has become something of a must. The somewhat more affordable Comedy Café is found within walking distance and often hosts international stand-up comedy performances. For new and upcoming talent, visit the Easy Laughs Comedy Troupe near the Crea Muziekzaal Theater.
The Balie is well known among artists and intellectuals. It hosts theater, movies and political debates. The Melkweg and Paradiso are popular night clubs that often also host bold new theater performances. Finally, the Stadsschouwburg, the municipal theater, is great place to see fantastic performances in a beautiful, historical building.
During the summer months the city comes to life with culture and entertainment. The Holland Festival is held in June and the popular Openlucht Theater is held in the Vondelpark in July. You’ll often encounter street artists on the Leidseplein and in the Vondelpark. Amsterdam is much loved by street musicians and artists. Some of them are surprisingly fun to watch.
